Part 1 General Topic (pre-assignment instructions): Before opening the assignment, read the provided sources and look through the sources you have used on your own papers for two that you can use to construct an argument regarding the topic of analyzing sources of information and the problem of misinformation. It is a good idea to underline, highlight, and otherwise make notations on your sources prior to opening the test. Further instructions regarding specific topic and approach will be provided when you open the assignment .
Your essay will use a minimum of 4 sources:
• A scholarly journal article source from among the sources provided to you with this assignment. Carefully review what constitutes a scholarly source in the Composition and Rhetoric Guide as many sources which at first glance appear scholarly actually are not.
• A non-scholarly source from among the sources provided to you with this assignment(either primary or secondary sources are fine).
• A scholarly secondary source chosen from the sources previously used in your English 102 essays this semester; it must be a source you have previously used not a new one. As before, be sure to review what constitutes a scholarly source to be sure your scholarly source is actually scholarly. Be sure you have this document saved to your computer as you will need to turn it in with the assignment; the formats accepted will be .doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpg, and .png.
• A non-scholarly source chosen from the sources previously used in your English 102 essays this semester; it must be a source you have previously used not a new one (either primary or secondary sources are fine). Be sure you have this document saved to your computer as you will need to turn it in with the assignment; the formats accepted will be .doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpg, and .png. • If you wish, you may use additional sources from the sources provided with this assignment, but you may not use any additional outside sources. While you may certainly use your Little Seagull Handbook during the assignment, it is also a good idea to write the proper works cited entry for each source on the source before you start the assignment. Remember to always check your citation format with your handbook. This will save you time when you write the Works Cited page for your essay. In your final essay, you are expected to demonstrate mastery of the following:
Ability to write an original, well-organized, sufficiently developed essay including an argumentative thesis statement that addresses the prompt
Awareness of a general academic audience along with the ability to engage the audience and maintain authority
Reading comprehension of the articles provided
Ability to construct clear, well-formed sentences
Ability to use quoting and paraphrasing to support
your own ideas and claims
Mastery of proper MLA in-text documentation
Ability to construct a proper Works Cited page Note:
It is important that your essay reflect your opinions and ideas about the issue. Articles are provided to give you a foundation for understanding the topic. You should NOT simply summarize or restate information from the articles provided but use them to help support your own claims and personal experience. Remember that all work submitted must be original. You are not permitted to submit work written. — Your assignment essay must be typed and submitted in one of these file formats: .word or .pdf. No other file formats will be accepted by the assignment.
The assignment is available to take at any point between 8 a.m. Monday, May 4th and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6th. Once open, there is a 2 hour time limit; your assignment will be automatically submitted at the end of 2 hours if you have not already submitted it prior to that.
This assignment will require you to submit a document attachment in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format; only one of these 3 formats will be accepted.
